Political Action

My name is Heidi Irion, and this is my first term as Political Action Chair, however I have served on the SCETF Executive for the last 3 terms in the New Member Chair where I was able to meet and connect with our new contract teachers. I have taught with SCDSB for 10 years – in Barrie, Collingwood, and Alliston as well as in a range of grade from grade 8, to more recently the wonderful world of kindergarten.

In my new role as the Political Action Chair, I am excited to continue to connect our members as we gear up to the 2022 provincial elections which will effect our daily working conditions and long-term goals as educators. There is no doubt that when we mobilize as a united group, ETFO members can be very powerful and have a great impact on the provincial political climate. In an effort to support the #Mobilizefor2022 movement, I will be asking our local members to become involved in a variety of big and small ways to use their voting rights and voting power to assure that we do not endure another 4 years of educational and political turmoil.

To reach our members effectively we will be forming a Political Action Committee which all are welcomed to and encouraged to join. The Political Action Committee works to promote the teaching profession, protect collective bargaining, and defend public education. The goal of the committee is to educate our members and the public through political activism at the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal levels. We will work with other labour and community groups to further the cause of public education and unionism.

Upcoming meetings for the Political Action Committee will be communicated to our membership in the near future.
