Equity

Hello SCETF Members,

I’d like to begin by acknowledging that I am situated on the traditional land of Indigenous peoples. I acknowledge that I am a settler on this land and that my existence upholds colonial and Eurocentric forces. I am committed to dismantling said Eurocentric ideologies and practices by not only implementing decolonized education within my class and school community, but also by supporting SCETF members and their students on their journey of (un)learning.

I am a second year SCETF member with a love for learning and unlearning. In August 2020, I obtained my Master of Education in Equity, Diversity, and Social Justice. Within this program, I studied, in depth, Anti-Black Racist Education, Gender Education, (Dis)Ability Education, Sexual Diversity Education, Anti-Poverty & Anti-Oppressive Education, Transgender Education, and Indigenous Education.

SCETF members are my first priority. As educators, it is our due diligence to dismantle systems of racism and oppression within the classroom and school community in order to properly support our staff, students, and families. I commit to work alongside colleagues and community organizations to collectively dismantle harmful systems. As the Equity Chair, I will provide learning spaces and opportunities (through the implementation of public speakers, book clubs, and workshops) to support you on this journey.

Thank you,

Sara Savoia
